Alma del Mar is a network of free, open-enrollment, public charter schools serving the city of New Bedford.  Alma del Mar’s mission is to put students on the path to college and to challenge them to become service-minded leaders. Alma del Mar runs an inclusive, K-8 Expeditionary Learning informed model with a rigorous academic program that emphasizes meaningful work that is grounded in the New Bedford community.  As of 2018, Alma del Mar was the highest-performing public school in New Bedford, serving a student population that is 72% High Needs and 64% Hispanic and African American.  As of 2018-19, Alma del Mar serves 450 students.  It is opening its second school in the fall of 2019, and will grow to serve between 900 and 1,050 students by the year 2023. The Alma del Mar Website
