In 2010, through partnerships with housing authorities in Lynn and Cambridge, Massachusetts, Compass Working Capital became the first nonprofit organization in the country to launch an asset building approach to the federal Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program.  Grounded in competencies drawn from the asset building field, the Compass FSS model integrates financial coaching, financial education, and other asset building strategies into the traditional FSS model, with the goal of helping clients reach benchmark targets in five core areas: income and employment, credit and debt, savings, utilization of high quality financial services, and asset development.
