Boston Teacher Residency (BTR)

Boston Teacher Residency (BTR)

Created in partnership with the Boston Public Schools district leadership, the Boston Teacher Residency was developed to stop the revolving door of new, untrained teachers into and out of Boston’s classrooms. BTR is informed by the medical residency model, preparing teachers to enter the classroom ready to teach through a combination of in classroom practical training with pedagogical and content expertise from a master’s program curriculum. Centering Healthcare Institute (CHI)

Centering Healthcare Institute (CHI)

The Centering Healthcare Institute (CHI) changes the paradigm of prenatal care by creating a model of group health care delivery that delivers significantly better prenatal and infant outcomes. Prenatal healthcare is delivered to women at the same gestational age in groups of eight to twelve in sessions that are facilitated rather than taught, by a doctor or midwife. The model creates a climate of support, learning and confidence among women, dramatically increasing the time and learning for soon to be mothers at the same cost to the health care system. CHI’s group care model has demonstrated significant reductions of preterm birth rates, low birth weights and rapid repeat pregnancies, while increasing breastfeeding rates and patient satisfaction among low income women. This group model of practice provides significantly more time with healthcare professionals than conventional prenatal models at the same cost and much better outcomes. City Connects (CCNX)

City Connects (CCNX)

The mission of City Connects is to have children engage and learn in school by connecting each child with the tailored set of prevention, intervention and enrichment services he or she needs to thrive. The organization’s mission is accomplished through a cost-efficient, school-based intervention that leverages the services and resources of the city’s community agencies. Rich as these community services are, they are most effective when they are tailored to the individual needs of each and every student. This highly efficient and effective program leverages existing services in a city and has shown statistically significant impact on student achievement in reading, math, student engagement and behavior – especially for boys and children who speak English as a second language. Most notably, the positive impact of CCNX on student performance is greater than the negative effects of poverty. City Connects Website Back to All SGP...
